What is WeCompress?
WeCompress is a free online file compressor built by the UK software company, Neuxpower. Their range of popular compression tools all use the same incredible NXPowerLite file compression engine to shrink the size of PDF, Microsoft Office and Image files without changing their format. Although WeCompress has a different name, it uses the same core technology as NXPowerLite. There are some differences of course, so to help you decide which solution is right for you, read on as we explain.
WeCompress
WeCompress was created as a way to raise awareness and showcase the effectiveness of the NXPowerLite file compressor software. As we mentioned, it uses the same underlying compression technology as NXPowerLite, but because it is provided as a free service it carries a few limitations that you won’t see in Neuxpower’s paid products.
It is online, so your file has to be uploaded, compressed, and then downloaded again, which is usually slower than doing the same process locally. All files are encrypted in transit and are only stored briefly on secure Microsoft Azure app servers before being deleted, however some security policies may still prevent you from uploading your files to an external site.

It can only compress 1 file at a time

NXPowerLite Desktop
NXPowerLite Desktop is Neuxpower’s first product, initially launched in 2001 and the original source of the compression engine that powers NXPowerLite and WeCompress. It now boasts a huge loyal following of over 3 million users and is the preferred file compressor for anyone who regularly needs to shrink their files.
It is software that you install and use on your computer, so all of the compression takes place locally. It can compress up to 10,000 files at a time, and there is no individual file size limit.

NXPowerLite Server
Having established NXPowerLite Desktop as the de facto standard for personal compression of documents and images, Neuxpower set out to create a solution that would allow IT Admins to apply the same compression at scale to their file servers.
NXPowerLite Server is a powerful, yet simple solution that can be used to reclaim existing server space by optimising all the files on the server, or set to watch specific folders and compress files in a workflow. Given a set of locations, it can scan the server for supported file types and then work through them, compressing and replacing files as it goes.
It can be scheduled to run in quiet times, flexible rules control where it can and cannot go and it can recover if it hits any problems, so it is a fully set-and-forget solution.
