Resize and compress JPEGs quickly from Explorer with NXPowerLite

If you need to regularly resize JPEG images from Explorer, NXPowerLite can easily be set up to support this.

Resizing makes a huge difference to image file size, as this example shows:

The first time you want to do this you will need to set up a custom profile choosing a resolution to resize JPEGs to — 1920x1080 works well for images to be viewed on high-resolution screens.

What this means is NXPowerLite will scale down the original image(s) to fit inside either a landscape (1920x1080) or portrait (1080x1920) box depending on the proportions of the original image. It will always maintain the height to width ratio of original image.

Follow these steps to create your image resizing profile:

1. Open NXPowerlite and click on the “New optimize profile…” in the Optimize profile dropdown.

2. Name it appropriately, for example “Resize JPEG 1920”, select the "JPEG" tab and check the "Resize images for display at:" box and choose "1920x1080" from the dropdown and then click “OK”.

3. Close NXPowerLite.

To resize the images you can now follow these steps:

1. Right click on the images and select “Create optimized copy”. You could alternatively choose "Back up and replace original" or "Replace original" from the explorer menu if you prefer.

2. Choose your resizing profile from the list and click “OK”.

Your resized JPEGs will now be created. You can create additional resizing profiles if you'd like to be able to resize to different sizes depending on the circumstances.
